Ursula Band
Unlike many artists who enjoy the public attention that accompanies success in their field, Ursula Band shuns the celebrity that should be hers by virtue of the enormous popularity of her paintings. She prefers to work in seclusion, painting flowers, animals, and birds on canvas and porcelain for collectors and connoisseurs in Europe, America, and Australia.
Frau Band was born in Meissen, Germany, and during her early childhood displayed a remarkable ability for painting and drawing. After finishing her education, she was accepted at the prestigious Painting and Drawing School of the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory, where she underwent four years of rigorous training. She displayed such unusual talent that she was chosen one of the handful of artists who paint the world-famous Meissen china by hand, and she continued in that demanding position until 1964, when she established her own artistic atelier. For her first collector’s plate series, Frau Band has chosen to portray one of her favorite subjects – the songbirds that grace the woodlands surrounding her home.
